Mark and Janna's story together began when they met in middle school at Landmark Christian School. Fast forward a few fun and youthful years and they began dating and they fell in love in high school. In 2006, they were married when they were both 21 years old and since then, they have been blessed with four beautiful little girls.
Mark and Janna have known for a long time that adoption was part of the Lord's plan for them. Janna recalls going to Venezuela for a mission trip in high school and wanting to "bring home all the babies." She has a limitless, nurturing and tirelessly loving mother's heart. Mark says that for as long as he can remember, they have wanted to adopt. After being in a small group with a family that had four adopted children of their own, they were introduced to a temporary hosting program and hosted a precious 7 year old girl from Latvia. They cared for her and loved her every moment they had with her and that experience helped to solidify their calling and God's will for their family. (That sweet girl and her sister were both adopted into their forever family!)
By 2014, Mark and Janna had three beautiful healthy little girls and still they knew God was leading them toward adoption. They had been talking about it for years, praying about it and even taking baby steps toward getting the process started. Janna became pregnant with baby girl number four, so while they slowed down the process, the plan to adopt had been written on their heart long ago and would remain. It was while Janna was pregnant with their fourth daughter that she felt a lump in her breast. It wasn't uncommon to experience things like that during pregnancy so Janna did what just about any mama would do and kept on keepin' on being a great wife and loving on while raising her three other sweet girls. In March 2015, when their youngest baby was 6 months old, Janna found out that the lump in her breast was actually a symptom of Stage 3 breast cancer.
The world as Mark and Janna knew it stopped. And then it quickly restarted and the battle began. Mark and Janna dug in and were surrounded by love, family, community and lots and lots of prayer. They fought. They fought cancer with medicine. They fought cancer with prayer. They fought cancer with love and with faith. They won. God wins. Love wins. A year later, her treatment was declared a success. Janna is cancer free!
Remember that message that God had written on their hearts?? Yeah, well it is still there! And while they have known God's plans for them included adoption, they never knew when it would happen. Isn't that the thing about God's timing- how it is always so unnervingly and unfailingly perfect? Well, the time is now!!!
Months ago, Mark and Janna mentioned casually to a friend who is an international child advocate for children with special needs, that they had always wanted to adopt. And unknowingly the Lord's plan had begun to unfold. Now, a sweet baby girl almost three years old, thousands of miles away in China has a home being prepared for her in Georgia. She has a mother and father who can't wait to hold her, show her who Jesus is and give her a life that every little girl deserves full of love, hope and family. She has four sisters who are preparing her room, to make her comfortable and who are ready to share a lifetime of experiences with her.
Adoption in itself is a labor of love and will be very expensive. The process will take several months to a year and will cost about $35,000. When she gets here, there will be some initial medical bills as well since she does have a (very treatable!) congenital heart defect. Prayerfully, enough people will be called to provide prayer and financial resources that will help make this process as easy as possible for Mark and Janna and their family.
